We were very disappointed

Vacation Date: September 29, 2024

My husband and I stayed for appx. 3 weeks at 37 Tan Oak. We left 2 days early. This is a property that we are very familiar with having stayed here over the past 12 years, this was our 10th stay. Our previous stay was in 2019. The property was in great shape then and we were looking forward again to a beautiful deck to enjoy, a grotto-style hot tub to soak in and basically we thought the home would be as it was before. We were very disappointed to find it was NOT! The deck was filthy with soot and pine needles, there are numerous areas where nails are coming up from the decking boards and the cushions and furniture were dirty. The paint on the deck railings is bubbling up and chipping in many places. One of the decking spindles is about to come off as well at the end of the front deck. Only one side of the hot tub had working jets and it did not get very hot. When we asked management about this, we were told they were aware of the problem but it could not be fixed. The primary suite mattress is WORN OUT and needs to be replaced. It is very hard with no cush. It feels like the original mattress the former owner put in this home YEARS ago. This bed used to be awesome. Not anymore! The queen bed downstairs is far more comfortable than the primary suite. The HVAC is a wreck blowing cold air for 30 minutes every time before it warms up enough to blow warm. We had to block the vent behind the couch with a pillow to keep from freezing until it warmed up. The ceiling fan in the great room goes on and off (including the light) at will even though it is turned off (also, in the middle of the night the light would turn on and we would have to get up and shut it off), the radiant floor heating in the bathrooms would go on and off at will as well even though it is set on the "ON" position, (the GFI in the downstairs bathroom would flip shutting the heat off in the floor and we had to call maintenance who located the GFI in the electrical panel???), and the stairs going up to the front door are rickety. There are dead and dying trees all around the lot. All of this is a shame because this home used to be awesome. The owners need to step up and take care of the maintenance issues with this home. They also need to own up to the fact that the hot tub is not fully working by disclosing it in the listing and the electrical and HVAC issues need to be resolved. The hot tub is a main attraction to this house along with the decks. Shame on the owners! Management and maintenance were as helpful as they could be and were very nice to work with, but we will NOT ever be staying at this home again and would never recommend it. Buyer beware.

Just a suggestion it would be helpful, if in the written description it was highlighted that there are three TVs shown in the photos but only the TV in the living room is available for use. We will definitely book again and really enjoyed our stay.

We absolutely loved staying here with our family! The kitchen has everything you need to cook, the beds were comfortable and the best part of the house was the indoor hot tub!! It was not too far from the village, sharc, parks etc. We would totally stay here again.

Well, the original house that I was supposed to stay in the hot tub was not working so I was moved to another house. However, I was not given the address of the house they had moved me to. Which prevented me from checking in on the date that I was supposed to check in which was Thursday November 9th. So I had to forgo the first night stay of my vacation. Then had to call the office the next morning to get the address for the house. Then drove to the house only to find out that it was not a pet friendly property and I could not stay there. I then had to be moved again. Thankfully it was to the original house I had booked, which I appreciated. However, the inconveniences were very frustrating and the lack of communication as well. I paid to stay for four nights and only got to stay for three. In the end I enjoyed the house and my vacation, but definitely had some frustrating points to it that mainly had to do with the company that manages the properties. The house was great and the indoor hot tub was and added bonus.

This is a great choice to stay in Sunriver. House is well kept with everything you need and it was super clean. Furniture in the whole house is very comfortable, but especially the seating in the living room. For us the only con was the skylight in the main bedroom, but because we read about it on another review, we came prepared with sleep masks. It’s super bright otherwise very early in the morning, even in a cloudy day. I wasn’t thrilled either with the check-in/check-out time been a bit late in the afternoon and early morning, especially after driving around for several hours to arrive , but nothing too bad. I think the great house made up for all of it This is a great location with close access to everything but very quiet and peaceful. Bikes were great and functional. Outdoor deck was great as well. Getting in and out of the house was super easy. This house was great and we would definitely stay here again.

This place is beautiful and clean and the inside hot tub is a major plus!!! A couple drawbacks were not having smart TVs in all rooms. We weren’t able to watch the NFL game together and prefer apps over cable. And keep in mind staying in the downstairs bedroom you can hear activity from upstairs if trying to sleep. Other than those two things, it was nicely stocked, they have great mountain bikes to use and the beds are comfortable and the home is nicely updated. Will definitely stay again!!

Pictures on site are accurate; when we arrived the house immediately felt welcoming and amazing. Comfortable, well-appointed interior space, new appliances (fantastic gas range), lots of storage abilities, large dinning table/chairs. Squeaky clean kitchen stocked with utensils, sharp knives, and nice dishes. Mark and Kate's home is very upscale and relaxing. Wonderfully, cozy beds. Note: there is a skylight above the master bed which was perfect for our active lifestyle--we were up early to take advantage of all that Sunriver offers: SHARC access, bike paths, hiking, river float... Bikes are the nicest in any Sunriver rental! Location is prized - super convenient to bike to Fort Rock Park and play pickle ball. We loved the wrap-around deck and gas grill. Outdoor dinning table/chairs topped off our great stay. Thank you for a tranquil, restorative vacation. We highly recommend!

Well stocked house in the kitchen, linens, games, books and electronics! We loved the layout of our Tan Oak property- the main living area was upstairs so it felt like a tree house. There were multiple sliding doors to the huge deck so it felt like a beautiful flow from outside to inside. And my puppies loved it! Walking in and out at their leisure to enjoy the sun on the deck to popping in to check out what’s cooking in the kitchen. The house was impeccably clean, directions to access the house were easy ( a code was sent) , and questions I had could be covered by txt or a quick call. The staff at the reservation office were personable, knowledgeable and laughed at my stupid jokes. In fact, I want to thank them for their patience as I booked the incorrect week and they helped me fix my idiocy. We would definitely rent from village properties again. They have lovely, dog friendly and kid friendly options to choose from. And working with the staff was really easy. I don’t need stress on any little vacay time I have, and I did not have any! Highly recommend this group.

Kate on the property management team went WAY out of her way to help us get into this home. We had rented a condo without AC, and it was miserable. She heard our concerns (even answering our text very late at night), and was able to get us into this place during a very busy time. It is newly remodeled and VERY nice. The only negatives would be a slight pool smell trickling into the master from the hot tub area, and the skylight above the bed in the master lets the light in early. We had a great stay at 37 tan oak. House was very clean, amenities good, great location, bikes in good shape, we brought our own helmets but the house did provide helmets. Ease of check in/out. Would certainly stay here again. - Anonymous from Windsor

The home was very nice and well kept. The amenities seemed nice but we didn’t get much opportunity to enjoy them - it took us nearly our entire stay to get the hot tub to reach a temp above 80° and still never got lucky enough to get the Jets to work and the gorgeous wrap around balcony seemed like a great place to unwind but we were not lucky enough to get to go so as the house next door was under construction. Instead of waking to sounds of nature we got to wake to sounds of construction and crashing and banging each day, which kind of sucked the relaxation out of the weekend. Disclosing the construction and being honest about that would have helped up make a better decision on where we stayed. The house was very clean though and the goodie bag for our dog was a nice touch. But the two things we specifically booked the house for were unable to be enjoyed, which was kind of a bummer. Get the hot tub fixed and disclose that there is a lot of noise pollution currently and this would be a great place. I’d stay again if the tub was fixed and once construction is complete. - Anonymous from HILLSBORO

We spent five nights at this house in February. It's a nice, well-appointed house in a good location. Our major criticism is the lack of any kind of guest book and some basics. The hot tub is old and a little temperamental...hot tubs are a lot less fun when the temperature is only 90 degrees. There are multiple remotes for the tv and related equipment. A book, which is standard in such places, would have gone a long way in explaining how these systems work. Also, there was a grill but no propane; fireplace but no firewood. We had the sense that they're more interested in selling it than renting it. - Alexander K. from West Linn Hi Alexander. Thank you very much for your feedback. Multiple TV remotes without any information can definitely be frustrating. I will be notifying the home owner concerning the hot tub condition. We absolutely loved this home - so cozy and well appointed! Beautiful updates, love that the guest room is on another floor. The kitchen is by far the most well equipped of any house we’ve stayed in, and our pup loved hanging out on the secure deck, while we BBQ’d. Despite our rental being during the “Corona Times,” we had an amazing time here. This house has everything you need. The kitchen is fully stocked, and we loved being able to bring our Great Dane with us. So many games, books, even bikes/helmets in the garage! All 6 of us slept comfortably with the pull out couch. We would definitely stay in this rental again. The only recommendation I could think of, was that the bbq grill wasn’t cleaned out before we arrived, and caught on fire the first time we used it. Thankfully, it was extinguished quickly with a box of baking soda, but maybe just adding this small item to the housekeeping list would be a good idea. Upon arriving at the rental, the first thing we noticed was how clean it was. It felt like no one else had ever been there. And its dog friendly! The space is beautiful, well stocked, and super cozy. There is a large array of books, movies, and games. The beds are very comfortable. The hot tub is amazing - though the jets don't work very well. That is my only criticism. we really liked the cabin - the bathrooms (no pictures shown when we reserved) we nice and the updates to the kitchen great. We weren't crazy about the carpet in bedrooms as it seemed old and dirty, but would likely rent the place again. Great for a couple or small family. - Robert M. from Mill Valley

Great location, house was well-equipped with everything we needed and super clean at check in. There are 4 adult bikes in the garage too and we enjoyed biking excursions to and from the village. Would recommend 37 Tan Oak!! - Jennifer P. from Seattle
