DESCRIPTION:Visit Mt. Bachelor to celebrate the 13th year of the Big Wave Challenge hosted by legendary Big Wave surfer\, Mt. Bachelor ambassador\, and Bend local\, Gerry Lopez. \nThis event\, inspired by Gerry’s passion for surf and snow\, is a snowboard contest held on a custom-built course featuring a series of huge sweeping banked corners\, quarter pipes\, and spines\, incorporating the natural terrain as much as possible. The result is a series of wave-like features linked up along a flowing course that brings the surf to the mountains\, or in Gerry’s words: “We build waves out of snow and have a surf contest!” The jam-style format allows registered riders of all ages to take runs through the course as many times as they like during their division’s allotted time. DESCRIPTION:The 2025 Sunriver Brewing Co. K9 Keg Pull is back at the Village at Sunriver. This is Sunriver’s premiere winter event that you won’t want to miss! \nAll are welcome to enjoy the event with or without a dog. This is the perfect day of fun for dog lovers of all ages! Dog-related vendors will be ready to supply you and your pup with all the essentials and more\, and the Bend VW Photo Bus will be on site for commemorative photobooth photo strips. Participants and spectators are encouraged to donate dog food and enter to win some great prizes. The dog food will be donated to the Humane Society of Central Oregon. \nAll dogs of any size or breed are welcome! The entry fee is $25.00 per dog. Each dog is placed in a category based on their weight and pulls a keg specific to their weight class. Kegs are empty of any contents. Dog owners are encouraged to bring their own harnesses. If you do not have a harness\, one will be provided for them at the race. All proceeds from the Keg Pull will benefit the Ronald McDonald House.\nAt the end of the race\, awards will be given to “Fast as Lightning Fido” in each weight category. Combining the lulling ambiance of shoegaaze with the iconic melodies and vocal prowess of classic American outlaw country music\, Orville Peck croons about love and loss from the badlands of North America. The resulting sound takes the listener down the dusty rose-colored desert highways; through a world where worn out gamblers\, road-dogs and lovesick hustlers drift in and out of his masked gaze. \nHis voice conveys its own sense of classic mystery: Peck croons with a deep\, soulful sound that’s been compared to Elvis Presley\, Roy Orbison and Chris Isaak. In 2020\, Peck signed with Columbia Records. His first EP for the label\, “Show Pony\,” included the track “Legends Never Die\,” a duet with country-pop superstar Shania Twain. That same year\, he recorded a steel guitar-influenced cover of Bronski Beat’s “Smalltown Boy” as part of a Pride Month digital singles series\, as well as a pair of Righteous Brothers covers with vocalist Paul Cauthen under the banner of the Unrighteous Brothers. In 2021\, at the request of Lady Gaga\, he recorded a cover of her signature hit “Born This Way” for a collection honoring the 10th Anniversary of the original album’s release. Later that year\, Peck recorded a cover of the Johnny Cash/June Carter Cash classic “Jackson” as a duet with drag performer Trixie Mattel for their EP “Full Coverage\, Vol. 1” and remixed the vintage k.d. lang number “Miss Chatelaine” for her Makeover collection. April 2022 brought Peck’s second full-length LP\, “Bronco\,” which paired his expansive voice with full-bodied production and arrangements that added accents of rockabilly\, ’60s pop\, psychedelia\, and bluegrass to his mix. The song “All I Can Say” featured a duet vocal with Bria Salmena\, a member of the Canadian indie rock band Frigs who moonlights in Peck’s road band. Big things are in store for Orville Peck in 2024\, and in true mysterious fashion\, we’ll have to wait until The Stampede comes to town to see for ourselves.

Crowded House’s mid-Eighties hits like “Don’t Dream It’s Over” and “Something So Strong\,” combined with albums like “Woodface” and “Together Alone\,” set the standard for the period’s erudite jangle-pop while always pushing the band’s art forward. \nThat creative spirit brings Finn and his Crowded House bandmates to “Gravity Stairs\,” their first new release since 2021’s “Dreamers Are Waiting” and eighth overall. Produced by the band with Steven Schram\, the album shows Crowded House in its current incarnation — Finn\, Nick Seymour\, Mitchell Froom\, and Finn’s sons Elroy and Liam — as sharp as ever\, feeling musically adventurous\, and still capable of reaching the staggering highs that have made them an international favorite. It’s the act of climbing those figurative “gravity stairs\,” inspired by a heavy stone staircase near where Finn vacations\, that he likens to his own mindset as a creator. \nThe Gravity Stairs are symbolic of the struggle to ascend\, acknowledging the opposing forces of weight on the mechanics of living. It’s an act of will everyday. \nThemes of connection and love pop up in several places on “Gravity Stairs”. “All That I Can Ever Own” begins with a funky drum beat and shimmering keyboards as it examines impermanence through child rearing and property under threat by rising waters. By the time it reaches its conclusion\, it’s arrived at something that sounds like jubilation. “There’s an awareness that you can’t really control the outcomes of what happens when you love someone\,” Finn says. \nPeople will certainly relate to the idea that no matter what you’re thinking about at 2 in the morning\, it feels like obsession\,” he says. “And when I’m working on songs\, that’s the reality: I’m going to bed with a tune going round in my head\, and I’ll wake up with a tune going round in my head.” \nAnd as he has so many times before\, Finn will make the decision to scale those gravity stairs yet again to see what awaits at the top.

Following his full-length debut\, 2004’s “Trouble\,” he gradually broadened his musical palette\, incorporating horns and strings on 2006’s “Til the Sun Turns Black” and evoking the psychedelic pop and country-rock of the late 1960s and early ’70s with his fifth album\, the Dan Auerbach-produced “Supernova”.
