Central Oregon can have some beautiful winter weather\, but this often comes with some cold to freezing temperatures and wet conditions. Regardless\, they are dedicated to staying open and continuing to operate sleigh rides for you; rain\, sleet\, cold\, or snow. This said\, please come prepared for winter weather conditions when you arrive for your sleigh ride. Please bring extra layers and blankets as you see fit\, as the operators are unable to provide these for you. It’s encouraged that you keep an eye on the weather forecast for the day you plan to ride\, as the weather in this region is known to change sporadically throughout the day.\nMake sure you are fully prepared before you get on the sleigh\, as they are unable to make any stops once you embark.\nWhile Sunriver is known for its snowy weather this time of year\, snow is not guaranteed for your ride. Sleighs are able to run on both runners and wheels so that we may operate in most any weather\, and last-minute cancellations due to weather are not refundable. The Geminids are bright and fast meteors and tend to be yellow in color. \nQuick Facts\nActive Dec. 1\, 2025 – Dec. 21\, 2025 (Peak Dec. 12-13)\nObserved Under Dark Skies Expect 40 to 50 meteors per hour\nMeteor Velocity 21 miles (33.8 kilometers) per second\nOrigin: 3200 Phaethon (an asteroid or a possible “rock comet”)\nRadiant: Constellation Gemini \nViewing Tips for the Geminids Meteor Shower\nThe Geminids are best viewed during the night and predawn hours and are visible across the globe due to a nearly 24-hour broad maximum. This shower is considered one of the best opportunities for young viewers since this shower starts around 9 or 10 p.m. To view the Geminids\, find an area well away from the city lights or street lights. Sunriver is within an International Dark Sky Place area\, so it’s the perfect location to view! \nCome prepared for winter temperatures with a sleeping bag\, blanket\, or lawn chair. DESCRIPTION:Visit Mt. Bachelor Nordic Center for a memorable New Year’s Luminaria celebration! As dusk falls in the mountains\, head out for a ski along candlelit trails. Be sure to bring a headlamp! Costumes\, glow-in-the-dark attire\, and general merriment are all encouraged! \nEvent Details\nDec. 31\, 2025 | 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.\nMt. Bachelor Nordic Center (13000 SW Century Dr\, Bend\, OR 97702) \nThe Luminaria Trail will extend for 2 kilometers – from the Nordic Lodge to the Oval via Beginner’s Luck and then back to the Lodge via Gaining Ground. The trail is open to both skiers and snowshoers\, however walking (without snowshoes) is not permitted. Enjoy a full menu of food and beverages from the Nordic Cafe\, experience a winter bonfire on the snow\, and ring in 2026 in the great outdoors. \nThe lodge will remain open until 8:00 p.m. and will be staffed to outfit guests with trail passes\, rental equipment\, and hot food and beverages. The Nordic Retail Shop will be open for clothing and accessory purchases\, and Nordic Ski Patrol will be onsite throughout the evening. \nNordic Passes Required\nThis is a self-guided experience; however\, a Half-Day Nordic Trail Pass ($24 adult / $16 senior & youth) or a Nordic Season Pass is required for the event.
